We all watched that second race from Clipsal 500 on March 1, watching the new kid on the block being piloted by an almost as new kid! Volvo had hit the V8 Supercar circuit and young Kiwi Scott McLaughlin was piloting his rocket around the track pushing 5 time champion Jamie Whincup every step of the way. On the last corner JW made an uncharacteristic error, obviously under pressure like he hadn’t experienced many times before, the reigning champion went a touch too wide leaving enough space for the new kid to slip through. In his own words post race – I don’t know what happened there. I just plucked it into first, gave it some jandal and f*ck yeah! A much embarressed McLaughlin broke a cardinal rule of live tv, but no one cared. A day to be remembered.
